Tikli Bottom and Sultanpur

We recently planned a day of full-on activities exploring Tikli Bottom and Sultanpur, in the Gurgaon area. My Dad, a keen bird watcher, was in town so we had an early start around Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, where we spotted flocks of painted storks…. (can you see them in this picture, atop the trees?)…

We then crossed to the other side of Gurgaon to Tikli Bottom, an amazing guest house run by a retired British couple. Just an hour from Delhi off the Sohna road, with no traffic noise and a view of the hills, it really feels like you’re in another place and time. There’s a riding school, a farm with buffaloes and chickens, and you can go for a walk in the nearby fields. We stopped in for lunch; a lovely, relaxing affair with all guests eating together on a big table in the garden..

Bizarrely, yet fabulously, the garden of Tikli Bottom is also home to a mob of emus, adopted recently from a new Hauz Khas village restaurant’s ill-fated attempt at emu farming...

We very much recommend it is a place to escape from Delhi, even if just for a day!
