A Long Weekend In Manali
Last weekend we escaped to Manali in the mountains of Himachal Pradesh. Both of us hadn’t been in years (Sarah last went 20 years ago on a family holiday!) And being low season we avoided the crowds of honeymooners and hippies. Here are our top 4 reasons why we loved it!
Freedom to Roam
We live in Delhi. Not the most pedestrian-friendly city in the world. It was brilliant to just be able to WALK! And explore the countryside around Manali – beautiful waterfalls, woods and of course the river.
Beautiful Nature
Apples, sunflowers and roses! Beautiful rambling orchards, and cute country gardens are dotted all over the mountain side.
Our Own Castle!
We stayed in the gorgeous Himalayan Resort and Spa, Manali. Complete with a pool, fireplace, four poster bed and fancy wooden touches. Highly recommended.
Peace and Quiet
Time to sit. And think. And draw. And eat. And drink.
One Thing We Didn't Love...
The journey. Manali is 14 hours from Delhi. On not-so-great roads. In a bus with a driver who insists on overtaking at speed on the bend of a narrow mountain road. Yes, it was very beautiful in parts, and definitely worth it. But if only there was a quicker way or better roads!
